Woman Files Suit Over Maryland Prescription Mistake

According to the Baltimore Examiner, an 82-year-old woman filed a lawsuit yesterday in the U.S. District Court in Baltimore claiming that a pharmacy gave her the wrong medicine, resulting in the woman losing the majority of her hair.

Instead of filling a prescription for a diabetes drug, the pharmacy gave the woman a hormone replacement drug used to treat goiter and thyroid problems. As a result, the woman says she suffered from hair loss, headaches, and high blood pressure among other ailments. She also spent a week at a hospital recovering.

Man Plans to File Maryland Fire Lawsuit against Apartment Company

A Maryland man is planning to file a $52.3 million lawsuit against the apartment company where his fiancée and 9-year-old son lived when they died in a fire last July, according to the Baltimore Examiner. The lawsuit claims that the apartment company failed to install and maintain working smoke detectors. His fiancée’s 7-year-old niece also died in the fire.

Mattel Recalls 19 Million Toys that May Pose Harm to Children

Yesterday Mattel recalled 19 million toys, which resulted in the world’s largest recall in history, according to the New York Times. The toys, which were made in China, are being recalled for reasons such as certain toys containing lead or lead-based paint, which has been linked to serious health complications. Toys have also been recalled due to strong magnets, which could harm children if swallowed.

Routine Traffic Stops Results in Maryland Auto Accident

An Anne Arundel County police officer was injured in a Maryland auto accident early Sunday morning after he stopped a driver for suspected DUI. While in the process of talking to the people who the officer pulled over, another car slammed into the police officer’s car. The driver of the second car was also suspected of driving under the influence, according to the Baltimore Sun. The car hit the police car with such force that the door of the police car, which was open at the time of the Maryland auto accident, was pushed 180 degrees toward the front of the car.

Local Billboards Might Result in Maryland Auto Accidents

According to an article in the Baltimore Sun, area billboards may be causing distractions for drivers, which can result in Maryland auto accidents and personal injuries. Members of the community have voiced their concerns and some are asking that electronic signs and billboards be removed in the area because they are too distracting. Additionally, the article quotes a statistic from AAA that says when a driver takes his or her eyes off the road for more than two seconds, the chances of that driver being in a crash more than doubles.

Maryland auto accident takes another victim

August 6, 2007

A second Arundel County teen died Saturday morning due to injuries suffered in a Maryland auto accident on July 29 in Glen Burnie, according to the Baltimore Sun. The first fatality was a 15-year-old passenger riding in the backseat, who was declared dead at the scene of the car accident. Two other teen passengers suffered injuries in the Maryland car accident.

Drunken Driver Causes Maryland Auto Accident

An intoxicated driver lost control of his car early this morning and crashed into a telephone pole, according to the Baltimore Sun. The Maryland auto accident occurred about 1 a.m. in Howard County. The driver was not injured, but the passenger suffered injuries and is currently listed as in serious, but stable condition. The driver has been charged with driving while impaired and causing serious injury to another person while under the influence of alcohol.

Maryland Truck Accident Delays Busy Traffic

Early this morning, a Maryland truck accident occurred when a tractor-trailer flipped on its side after its trailers came loose. The contents of the truck, Mexican food, were spilled across westbound Route 50 in Anne Arundel County, according to the Washington Post. No injuries were reported with the Maryland truck accident, but morning traffic was delayed as the accident scene was cleaned.

Train Accident Results in Death

According to an article posted today on the Washington Times’ Web site, a train struck and killed a woman at the Ballston, Va., train station around 9:30 this morning. The train accident resulted in two stations closing while the accident was being investigated.

Dog Attack Case Heard in Court

July 27, 2007

A judge is hearing a dog bite injury case regarding whether or not a pit bull, Sidney, should be euthanized for attacking a bichon frise, Molly, on July 4, according to an article in the Washington Post. When Molly and her owners went for a walk, Sidney grabbed Molly and shook her for several seconds. The incident resulted in serious injuries to Molly, who is still recovering from multiple surgeries. Sidney’s owners say that Molly approached Sidney first. They may have to euthanize Sidney if the judge finds that he is a danger to other dogs or people. Sidney has no prior dog bite record.
