Maryland Dog Bites Raise Community Concern

November 29, 2011

A string of vicious dog attacks in the Baltimore, Maryland, area has some community members concerned for the safety of their families and pets. WBALTV 11 News reported the most recent attack yesterday when three dogs mauled a man while he was jogging through an Anne Arundel County Park.

The incident occurred Monday at around 1:30 in the afternoon at Davidsonville Park. The victim told police that a man believed to be in his 20’s was handling three leashed dogs as he passed the jogger. The animals lunged and quickly overtook the the victim. The dog’s handler fled the scene in a tan minivan with one of the animals as the attack was occurring. The jogger was able to fight the dogs off, but required medical treatment for injuries to his arms and legs. The other two dogs were found by animal control in the park and are being held.

Last week, a woman reported her poodle was attacked near her home by a neighbor’s two dogs that had gotten loose. She and her neighbors were able to ward off the attacking animals and her poodle survived, but required numerous surgeries and thousands of dollars in veterinary bills.

Also, a month ago, a loose dog bit a six-year-old girl as she played in her own front yard. The girl required forty stitches to close up the wound.
