Two Baltimore Teens Killed In Hit-And-Run Accident

June 21, 2011

TV 11 News reports that police and the state attorney’s office are investigating a hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of two teenage girls in Baltimore, Maryland. The accident occurred around midnight on Monday of last week at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West Pratt Street. The girls, who were 16 and 17-years-old, were crossing the street as they walked home, when the driver of a Lincoln sedan cruised through the intersection and struck the girls, leaving them for dead in the middle of the road. The teens were transported to Shock Trauma, where they were later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Lincoln was later stopped by a Maryland Transportation Authority police officer for a non-related traffic violation. The officer noticed fresh damage on the vehicle and immediately contacted Baltimore police detectives. Authorities questioned the driver and a passenger, but released them. Charges may be brought against the pair later.

Wrongful death cases involving a hit-and-run accident can be very complicated and confusing for most people. The experienced Maryland Wrongful Death Attorneys with ChasenBoscolo Injury Lawyers may be able to help ensure those responsible for your loss pay for the damage they caused.

Toning Tennis Shoes May Cause Injuries

June 7, 2011

A new fashion trend involving the arch-soled, back-end toning tennis shoes, like Sketchers shape-ups, may cause more harm than good. Commercials for the products claim they will get you in shape and fast, but a study by Consumer Reports claims numerous wearers have complained of body pain from the feet to the neck, as well as twists and sprains of ankles and knees, with no toning results. One case in the report told the story of a woman who had them on for less than 45 minutes, when she felt her ankle turn and the bone break.

Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Joel Buchalter, doesn’t find the results of the study the least bit surprising because, he says, the shoes are designed to create instability. The doctor was quoted as saying, “If you take a patient who is elderly, or someone who has a balance issue, and you put that shoe on them, you’re looking for disaster.”

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) did a study on several of the toning shoes, and found no benefit to them over wearing regular tennis shoes.

Not only is there no benefit to wearing these shoes, they could cause someone wearing them serious harm through the numerous injuries they could incur because of the unbalanced nature of the shoes. If you have been injured because a product didn’t do what it said it would, the Defective Product Attorneys with ChasenBoscolo Injury Lawyers may be able to help.

Tour Bus Crash on I-95 In Virginia Kills Four

May 31, 2011

The Northbound lanes of I-95 in Virginia, near mile marker 104, were closed this morning following an accident involving a commercial tour bus that overturned and has left at least four people dead. The incident occurred just before 5 AM this morning, near the Carmel Church exit in Caroline County. NBC12 is reporting that the bus began to veer off to the right side of the road, the driver then over-corrected causing the bus to flip. Authorities say that 57 passengers were aboard the bus, but there is not an exact count on the number injured. Virginia State Police did confirm that four people had died, and many of the passengers were taken to at least seven hospitals in Fredericksburg and Richmond.

Accidents involving commercial vehicles are much more rare than accidents involving private vehicles, but can have serious ramifications for the driver if injuries or property damage occur. Drivers of commercial vehicles have many restrictions they must obey in order to transport their cargo–whether it is people or crates–safely on the roadways. A violation of these restrictions that caused an accident could put the driver of the commercial vehicle and his company at fault, resulting in them being held responsible for any damages.

There are many regulations on commercial drivers that you may not be aware of. Contact Maryland auto accident attorneys with Chasen Boscolo Injury Lawyers if you have any questions about a accident you were involved in with a commercial vehicle.

University of Virginia Freshman Dies In Slip And Fall Accident

May 24, 2011

When you hear the term “slip and fall,” the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is the classic  gag of someone running and slipping on a banana peel. Unfortunately, most slip and fall accidents don’t end with a result that would make us laugh.  Most end, at best, with some bruises. Some end with far more tragic results.

Take for instance the case of a University of Virginia freshman who slipped and fell to his death off of a wet roof on campus. The Washington Examiner reports that on a Sunday night in late March of this year, the freshman made his way onto the top of the universities’ physics building, when he apparently lost his footing on the roof . He then proceeded to slide of the roof and fell 40 feet. He was transported to a local hospital, but was declared dead early on Monday. University authorities have ruled out suicide or foul play, and do not suspect that alcohol played a factor either.

Common injuries that occur are fractured bones, dislocated joints, pulls, sprains, and bruises. The most important thing to remember if you are involved in a slip and fall accident is not to be embarrassed. Don’t try to pretend like it didn’t happen, get the help you need. Seek medical assistance and call a Maryland slip and fall attorney. The lawyers with Chasen Boscolo may be able to help you settle your case.

FDA Reports Problems With Needleless Pre-Filled Syringes

May 17, 2011

In a podcast conducted on May 06, 2011, by Jennifer Shepard, a pharmacist for the Division of Drug Information for the Food and Drug Administration, a warning was issued about malfunctions in a cardiac drug administration device. A Drug Safety Communication was issued to let medical professionals know of a problem with the connections between particular types of intravenous access systems and certain needless pre-filled glass syringes containing the cardiac drugs adenosine and amiodarone.

According to the report, “The FDA has received reports that the adenosine and amiodarone pre-filled glass syringes can become clogged and malfunction during the process of connecting them to pin-activated needleless IV access systems… These failures can cause a delay in administration of the medication in emergency situations, and could potentially result in serious harm to patients.’’

This is a big enough problem that the manufacturer of the drug, Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has issued a voluntary recall; however, a full recall cannot be issued because “…the current supply of adenosine in vials is not adequate to meet demand.” The FDA has made healthcare professionals aware of the problem and has asked them to only report the problem in the future.

This negligence has caused serious health problems in patients and could potentially lead to a wrongful death. Virginia Drug Injury Lawyers, Chasen Boscolo, practice these types of cases and may be able to help.

A former Capitals defenseman has been awarded Washington D.C. worker’s compensation and disability payments, according to WashingtonExaminer.com.

The Washington D.C. workers’ compensation settlement comes nine years after his career was ended by a blow to the head from a game he played in Canada.
